Special feature: BA Pumps & Sprayers

BA Pumps and Sprayers’ machinery and products are designed for NZ's unique conditions

The LS linkage sprayer series is available in 1000L and 1300L options from authorised BA dealers across NZ

Brussels sprouts may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for Bruce Rollinson, they’re his bread and butter. A producer and packer of Brussels sprouts and parsnips, Bruce’s premium produce grown at Snow Country Gardens in Ohakune is sought after by supermarkets around New Zealand.

To deliver the sprouts and parsnips Bruce is known for, the experienced horticulturalist needs the best machinery — and that extends to spraying equipment. Fortunately, he’s found that in the form of BA Pumps and Sprayers’ LS1300 linkage sprayer.

“BA’s galvanised boom means I don’t have any trouble with corrosion,” explains Bruce. “The sprayer I used before had painted booms, which is what prompted me to look elsewhere.”
Providing a resolution to the corrosion problem proved to be just one of the benefits BA’s LS sprayer has given Bruce. The New Zealand steel sizing, width of the boom, and tank capacity have also contributed to reducing Bruce’s spraying time, saving labour, diesel, and tractor hours.

What’s more, when minor damage occurred to the boom during his busy season, Bruce experienced BA’s true Kiwi customer service that matched the quality of the company’s products.

World-class technology, local knowledge

BA’s machinery and products are designed for New Zealand’s unique conditions — something that was important to Bruce. He’d considered sprayers by other manufacturers in the past but ultimately trusted BA’s local knowledge and design.

“BA is making sprayers for a New Zealand farming environment and different New Zealand terrain. They don’t just make a one-size-fits-all machine,” he says.

With paddocks up to five hectares, the ability to spray these areas with one tank fill in a short time was important for Bruce. BA enabled Bruce to achieve that with the 16-metre full hydraulic fold boom, including boom suspension attached to their LS 1300.

“BA has made continuous improvements on their sprayers and improved boom suspension over the years. This was a real selling point for me. They’ve listened to the feedback from people using the product and engineered a better outcome.”

LS 1300

The LS 1300 three-point linkage sprayer features a Bertolini 160lpm POLY pump (PTO Drive), a Super-X2 16-metre boom fitted with full-length wing lift kit, Integrated 1200mm lift and dual airbag boom suspension, along with a TeeJet Radion 9 Section AutoRate coupled with TeeJet Matrix GPS for Auto Section control. The LS 1300 complements Bruce’s existing sprayers, and he’s a big fan of the upgraded technology.

“The sprayers have great technology, and precision-wise for agriculture, it’s really good. The GPS units also integrate with my self-steer, which is a bonus.”

Quality customer service

BA’s products are not only made for New Zealand but also in New Zealand. That means maintenance is a breeze and, when accidents happen or maintenance is needed, the BA team — and spare parts — are only a phone call away.

The LS Series is part of a range of Linkage Sprayers, including the LK 1600L and 1900L sprayer and the new 900L and 1150L LM Series, which was launched at the Southern Field Days in February.

Kiwi experience to the fore

Bruce’s experience of BA’s equipment means there’s no question who’s his preferred supplier of spray technology.

“They say to stick to what you know, and I know that with BA, I get a good product and good service,” says Bruce. “They offer good service, good back-up, and good technical advice, and they’re New Zealand-made.”
