C & O Tractors

Company profile

When it comes to his customers, Tim Ogle from C&O Tractors is always willing to go the extra mile. The owner of the Whakatane-based company may be the sole member of staff, but the highly experienced chief dismantler never scrimps on service. The business has been dismantling used agricultural and horticultural wheeled tractors for the past 18 years from its 2000sqm premises in Gateway Drive.

C&O stocks more than 20 popular brands of European, English and Japanese tractors in a variety of makes and models. It is also well known for its extensive range of used front-end loaders, tractor tyre rims, wheel assemblies and competitive prices. Working closely alongside a wide network of tractor dismantlers, there is a high probability that if Tim doesn’t have the right part for the client he will be able to source it somewhere down the line.

Tim decided to join the online community approximately five years ago signing up to Farmtrader.co.nz after years of being a loyal advertiser in the magazine. His decision to enter the world of internet selling reflects the general direction that many modern farmers are headed. Tim saw the internet as just another avenue to promote his business with the added advantage of unlimited space to list stock. “We can put much more on the site than we can in the magazine,” he says. “ninty-nine percent of our stock is secondhand, but we can also do new as well.”

Having a web presence has increased the number of customer enquiries the business receives and Tim prefers to follow up each one personally with a phone call once the initial contact has been made.

While C&O does not specialise in any particular brands it seems to go through phases as far as sought-after stock is concerned. “At the moment we are having a run with Iseki Fords and Massey Fergusson. For a while there I hadn’t bought any Fords but I’ve ended up with about 10,” he says. “It’s the same with Isekis you seem to see a bit of a phase with different sorts of brands.

“There’s always more stuff coming in, he declares. “If we haven’t got it we’ll try to find it.”
