Dannevirke A&P Show

Farm Trader checks out the Dannevirke A&P Show

Held for the past 107 years and still going strong, the Dannevirke show remains a favourite event for many in the wider Manawatu area.

What a great way to spend a day in the sunshine and with so much on offer it was hard to know where to start.

We began with some big machinery and caught up with Craig Lancaster (LTS Ltd) who had the latest Seko Samurai 5 500/170 chopping-mixer wagon (see article on page 58) on display as well as a range of other equipment.

“The show gives us a chance to chat with people and have a catch-up, which we normally don’t, as everyone is so busy,” he says.

We headed to the grandstand to watch the equestrian events and a display of local livestock with the All Breeds, Lifestyle Beef, and Dairy section. A couple of cute, shaggy redheads – Highland cattle and some Dexter-Lowline cattle – caught our attention.

We checked out the home industries sections and were wowed by displays of wool, baking, knitting, painting, photography, and much more.

There was also live music, performing ponies and dogs, Mahon’s rides for the kids as well as the usual fare of hot dogs, popcorn, and steak sandwiches.

All this and the relaxed country atmosphere made our show day in Dannevirke a memorable one.
