James Currie discussing the Delfast 3.15 Fence Batten Stapler

The agriculture, construction and manufacturing industries are the backbone of New Zealand. With the unique challenges of New Zealand’s varied climates, supporting the industries at the country’s core has been the focus of family business Delfast for generations.
Driven by the purpose to relentlessly innovate, create, and deliver fastening solutions, Delfast was started in 1992 by brothers Andrew and Ian Currie, and the family legacy of “sheer hard work” has remained a firm commitment ever since.
Since the beginning, the focus has been around working hard to create relationships with Delfast product users and building a reputation of providing the best service possible.
“We’re committed to creating a better experience for our end users and an environment where people are confident to own Delfast products,” says Delfast general manager James Currie.
“Our humility as Kiwis drives us to support our customers and community through continuous feedback and working closely with those who rely on us.
“Our story is that of generations of our family believing in the capability of Kiwis to overcome and challenge themselves. After all, our story comes from humble beginnings so we really do understand.Growing up in our family has taught me to work hard, to innovate, and to care about the people. We do what we do because we care.”
James says that his grandfather, Collin, has always been hardworking.
“He’s always had a passion for people, and he’s always put family first.”
Several generations on, these commitments remain unchanged.

Six-year old Colin Currie on the Bunnythorpe farm
|
Collin, affectionately known to the family as ‘Papa’, had been farming since high school and in 1960 took over the family sheep and beef farm in Bunnythorpe, Manawatu.
“Farming sheep means high-quality fencing — it’s been in our blood, right from the beginning,” James explains.
“In 1998, we developed a contractors’ stapler that has changed fencing for the better — something we couldn’t have done without the relationships we’ve built with our end users. We saw that our users needed a better product than what was on the local market. They needed something that would last and worked with the unique conditions they were working in. We saw that our product users were frustrated, and we wanted to do something about that.”
The result was a staple product that became a pivotal point for Delfast.
“Not only that, we’ve developed more than 1000 product lines that are ideally suited to our product users’ needs and to the unique challenges of New Zealand’s climate,” James says.
“Papa’s care and commitment to people have remained a foundation of Delfast today. We’re dedicated to bettering the experience for our end users.
“Our goal is to create an environment where people are confident to own the Delfast products they have. We want to think smarter, not harder for our end users — to make building the best, effortlessly.”
