The countdown is on for the Farm Trader Top Tractor Shoot Out, being hosted this year at the South Island Agricultural Field Days (25-27 March) at Kirwee, Christchurch.

The annual top tractor event sees us line up some of the leading tractor brands in New Zealand – and test them together in the same paddock, in the same setting and with the same team of drivers. We’ll be putting them through their paces for the duration of the SIAFD and also challenging them with some cultivating tasks.

It’s a massive undertaking and this year, given the economic climate, we’re putting six cylinder tractors in the $140,000 price range, under the spotlight.

This workhorse selection of tractors should prove useful to many New Zealand farmers. We’re out to find you the best value for money, as well as looking at everything from build quality and user friendliness to performance and innovation.

Our team of test drivers is made up of three of Farm Trader’s finest machinery testers; Jaiden Drought, Brent Lilley and Mark Fouhy, plus an element of international flavour, with a test driver from our Australian publication NFM (New Farm Machinery). He can expect plenty of stick from the strong Kiwi contingent.

Last year we tested six tractors in our Top Tractor Shoot Out: the John Deere 6115M, Case IH Maxxum 110XS, Deutz-Fahr Agrotron K420, Valtra N113, Claas Arion 530 CIS and Massey Ferguson 5445.

This year we’re putting together an equally impressive line-up of contestants (to be revealed soon), all with the aim of giving you as much fair and impartial information as we can, so when it comes to making your tractor decision, you will be so well informed even the tractor sales teams will be impressed!

Come and meet us at the event – there’ll be plenty of opportunity to mingle with the Farm Trader team and check out the tractor selection.
