Students can “Get Ahead” at Fieldays 2015
Fieldays is partnering with NZ Young Farmers and NZFarmer to bring the Get Ahead programme on site this year with the Get a Haircut, Get a Real Job initiative.
The initiative will run during all four days of Fieldays to educate young people about the scope, diversity, opportunities and innovation within the primary industries, creating an increased understanding of the industry and encouraging future study and employment in the primary sector.
Get Ahead Project Manager, Adam Caldwell, says the project, supported and funded by DairyNZ and Beef+Lamb NZ, is managed by New Zealand Young Farmers.
"Get Ahead focuses on high school students, breaking the stereotypes attached to the rural sectors and illuminating the vast array of career opportunities and roles available for young people."
Companies exhibiting at Fieldays are now able to be part of a Get Ahead initiative and be involved in addressing the issue of the shortage of young people entering their industry.
"This is an exciting opportunity for Fieldays to be part of such an important programme that will help meet increased labour demands and bridge gap between our urban and rural communities," says Fieldays Head of Events, Lee Picken.
Various exhibitors around Fieldays will have a Get Ahead Career Champion on their site at the Mystery Creek Events Centre, 10-13 June 2015.
Farm Trader will also be at Fieldays 2015; come down and meet the team!
