Farm Trader visited the recent drive and demo days hosted by JJ Ltd Invercargill and Gore branches

It might be spring, but there was snow on the hills and a definite chill in the air for the recent drive and demo days hosted by JJ Ltd Invercargill and Gore branches.

Featuring the latest offerings from Massey Ferguson and Fendt tractors, the first place Farm Trader headed was for a thorough inspection of the creature comforts in the cabs, particularly the heating! This is definitely an efficient way to warm up.

As well as the tractors on-site, JJ had an impressive line-up of machinery available for testing – Moreni power harrows, Farmet plough harrow and chisel cultivator, Pottinger seed drill and reversible plough, Alpego power harrow and air/reset subsoiler, Gascon discs, and Topcon GPS.

The stand-out equipment for me was the Farmet cultivators and Moreni power harrows. The Italian-made Moreni equipment has been available in the North Island through Waikato tractors but has a revised red and black paint colour scheme when imported by JJ Ltd for the South Island.

Farmet cultivation equipment is also new to the country, imported and distributed exclusively by JJ Ltd. Given the level of interest from farmers and contractors in the couple of pieces of equipment on-site, I’d expect to see a number of these pieces of machinery operating around the Southland region in the near future.

We hooked the six-metre Moreni Power harrow to put it through its paces. You can read our full test review in our upcoming issue.
