The battle is heating up with 4x4 trials competitors eyeing up a national title, with just two rounds of the 2019 national competition remaining

With events held on private farm land around the country, the more challenging the terrain, the better. Purpose-built 4x4 trials vehicles are equipped to combat hill climbs, water courses, mud bogs, steep hills, rocks, ruts, banks, and a speed section.

A licenced driver and co-driver in each vehicle compete in a variety of vehicle classes, from production standard to highly modified at one-day events around New Zealand.

Each event has an overall winner for the day and winners by class. These points go to make up the national results for the different zones and overall placings at the end of the season.

The course is made up of a minimum of 30 short obstacles. The driver and co-driver attempt to negotiate their vehicle through each hazard as far as they can. Vehicles must not flatten, straddle pegs, or run over boundary pegs if on a graded hazard.

The latest event pictured here was hosted by Waikato Four Wheel Drive Club, with the remaining two events in Bay of Plenty and Mt Egmont deciding the final results.
