Mayfield A&P Show 2018 set for tractor pull

The Mayfield A&P Show scheduled for 9 and 10 March will be hosting a tractor pull event this year

The Mayfield A&P Show in March is all set with its newest addition to this year’s show – tractor pull.

It all started in September 2016 when a couple of the younger A&P members were thinking of ways to attract a new crowd to the show, and the idea of organising a tractor pull was born.

First thing on the agenda was to secure the paddock next to the Mayfield showgrounds. The trip next door to visit the late Ben Johnson went well, and he was more than happy to use his land for the event. However, as there wasn’t much time to organise a tractor pull event in the 2017 show, the committee decided to move it to the next year.

The then committee president, Martin Williams, came on-board as convenor of the tractor pull section. He started the large task of phone calls and meetings to get kick-start the project. Feedback from the local community, contractors, and dealers has been positive so far and the committee is hoping for a great couple of days.

The tractor pull event will run on 9 and 10 March 2018 (Friday and Saturday). Gates open at 7am and the action starts at 9am on both mornings. There will be plenty of parking, food, and drinks available.

Three classes have been lined up for the show: standard, pre-1985, and modified, and the committee might perhaps add another one for anything weird and wonderful that wants to battle it out.

A big thanks to Vaughan Coy from Tractor Pull, and Mark Dillon from Southern Field Days Tractor Pull, DPS, Drummond and Etheridge, Quigley Contracting, BR Jones Contracting, Macrowe Contracting, Ricky and Rebecca Taylor, and all other businesses and people supporting this event.
