The Kiwi-owned company is run by a team of tradies who are passionate about tools. Originally formed more than 30 years ago by the Giles brothers, Graeme and Wayne, The ToolShed started as a small family-based business that has expanded to 29 stores nationwide, including online, and employs a team of more than 130 people throughout the country.
There have been a lot of changes in how the business is modelled and operates over its lifespan, especially with adapting to the challenges of trading through a pandemic. In 2023, as The ToolShed marks its 25th anniversary, it will be an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the efforts of its staff.
Whether you’re an apprentice looking to start your tool collection, a seasoned tradie wanting to expand your kit, or a lover of all things DIY, The ToolShed team brings speciality service and knowledge to help ensure every customer gets the right tool for the job and also source products that are not in stock.

The ToolShed procures self-branded tools from a variety of factories to ensure they offer an extensive range of high-quality tools for their customers. This includes a complete heavy-duty cordless range known as ToolShed XHD. The company’s product managers visit factories to inspect the working conditions and quality of products to make sure they are fit to wear the ToolShed name. Often factories produce tools for big brand names, too. Buying in bulk from these suppliers and shipping to New Zealand means customers can have the best tools at great prices.
The ToolShed prides itself in caring for the environment by dealing with factories that have recyclable packaging and local suppliers that print flyers on biodegradable stock.
