Gisborne contractor Hayden Bruce has been running his contracting business, HD Bruce Contracting Ltd, for the past 14 years. He offers a range of agricultural services, including full cultivation, direct drilling, and fodder beet planting, and in recent years has moved extensively into earthmoving and forestry roading.
Hayden has been using New Holland machinery for 13 years and has owned eight New Holland machines during that time.
“My first machine was a New Holland TM190 tractor,” he says. “I chose New Holland because they are known to be hill-country tractors. We do a lot of steep hill country and that first New Holland tractor lived up to our expectations, so we stuck with them.”
Hayden currently has a New Holland T7.260, which he has owned for two years. “The business has diversified, and the T7.260 is ideal for our big earthmoving and forestry roading work. It spends half its life doing that work.
“We have a big eight-metre Hautapu scoop that we tow behind it and it is quite good for that. We also have a big McIntosh trailer we tow and it is good for that as well.”
Hayden says he and his crew also use it to do quite a bit of cultivation in steep areas. “It is just a really good all-rounder for the horsepower. It has got snap-lock duals, which you can drop them off and/or attach them quickly to go from earthworks back to our cultivation work.”
Hayden purchased his New Holland machinery through Norwood Farm Machinery Centre in Gisborne and says the best thing about the dealership is its people.
He says the excellent service he receives from his local Norwood Farm Machinery Centre and the ability of his New Holland tractors to work in steep country are two reasons he continues to be loyal to the brand.
