Fieldays ticketholders travel free on all BUSIT services

Waikato Regional Council and NZ National Agricultural Fieldays are making it easier for visitors to get to this year’s event, extending the offer of free travel to all BUSIT services into Hamilton.

"Your pre-purchased Fieldays ticket will make your bus ride between home and Mystery Creek free," said council BUSIT operations manager Andrew Wilson.

"This offer has been available to people traveling on Hamilton buses the past few years, but we’ve had passengers on our regional services interested in a similar option too.

"So this year we’re extending the offer of free travel for Fieldays ticketholders to include all our regional services which travel to and from Hamilton."

Mr Wilson said the free door-to-door travel included buses traveling from Raglan, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Paeroa/Morrinsville and Huntly.

"This huge event attracts over 100,000 visitors, so making public transport more accessible is the right thing to do – it relieves congestion across Hamilton and especially in the vicinity of Mystery Creek.

"It also encourages people who might never have travelled with us before to give our public buses a go," Mr Wilson said.

Lee Picken, Fieldays’ head of events, said: "We’re thrilled with the free bus initiative Waikato Regional Council rolls out each year. And the inclusion of satellite services this year means even more Fieldays visitors can take up the stress-free option.

"We know Fieldays traffic can be hectic at times and we’re pleased to be able to work with the Waikato Regional Council to offer different options for people to attend the event."

Fieldays runs from 15-18 June. At the Transport Centre in Bryce Street, hop on the free Fieldays buses to Mystery Creek departing between 8.30am and 10.30am daily, and returning between 2pm and 5pm.
