For May Brothers Contracting, machinery isn’t just part of the job; it’s the heart of their agricultural contracting and farming operation

Over the years, the company has built a reputation for reliability across the district, running a substantial fleet of high-value agricultural equipment that works hard season after season. Protecting that investment has always been a top priority, and when it came time to expand their storage capacity, there was only one name they trusted to deliver once again: Alpine Buildings.

Protecting the Big Gear

“Our machinery is expensive, and we need to take good care of it, so the resale value stays up,” Phil explains. “That means keeping it out of the sun and the elements – you can’t leave this gear sitting outside anymore.”

The solution came in the form of an impressive new 1800-square-metre Alpine shed, designed to house the full fleet under one roof. Measuring 30 metres by 60 metres, with 8.5-metre bays and 6-metre doors, the new structure provides ample space for tractors, harvesters, and implements.

May Brothers had worked with Alpine Buildings on several previous sheds, but this latest build raised the standard yet again.

“We looked at a few different options,” says Phillip, “But we liked the design of the Alpine shed. The roof design really sold it to us; it’s bird-proof, there’s nowhere actually for them to sit in this roof, so that was a massive plus for us.”

Smart Design, Proven Performance

Every Alpine structure is engineered for strength, efficiency, and practicality – qualities that matter to busy operators who need things to work right, the first time. The new May Brothers shed showcases Alpine’s signature clear-span design, which eliminates internal posts and allows unrestricted access for wide machinery and flexible storage layouts.

The team also appreciates the thought that’s gone into the small details. Everything’s tidy, functional, and well put-together.

“It probably exceeded our expectations.”

A Build to Match the Business

For Alpine Buildings, delivering a project like this is about providing a structure that genuinely supports the customer’s business. From the first consultation, right through to completion, communication and efficiency are at the core of the Alpine experience.

Phil agrees. “The team was awesome to deal with,” he says. “We had a fixed-price contract, and they built it really quickly. One week they were pouring concrete, and by the next week the frames were standing. The team were awesome, the guys who built it, they work really quickly. We can’t fault their workmanship either; everything’s really tidy. We’re left with this good product.”

Even the project management impressed.

“We didn’t have to chase them or ask questions. They just knew what they were doing and kept us in the loop. The communication has been awesome.”

Investing in Longevity

A build of this scale is a serious commitment, but for the May Brothers team, it pays off every day.

“This is a huge investment, building something like this,” Phil admits, “But there’s a lot of valuable items in here as well. Resale value is big for us; we’re always looking at the cost of ownership and that trade-in gap between the new and the old. Keeping our equipment in top condition helps bridge that gap. This shed definitely helps with that. It keeps everything looking better and lasting longer.”

The project stands as another example of the ongoing partnership between May Brothers Contracting and Alpine Buildings – one built on trust, quality, and shared values.

“Alpine have been awesome to deal with,” Phil says. “I’d recommend them to anyone. Yeah, it’s been a breeze really.”

A Lasting Relationship

Over several projects together, Alpine Buildings has delivered the same level of service and reliability that keeps customers coming back. For contracting businesses like May Brothers, this consistency matters. Each new shed is another layer of protection for the company’s hard-earned assets, another step toward efficiency, and another demonstration of Kiwi workmanship done right.

After 5000+ projects completed over the past 30 years, Alpine Buildings continues to set the benchmark for rural infrastructure that stands the test of time.
