Profile: X Span

X Span is fast becoming a household name in NZ, recognised for providing premium steel sheds that are NZ-made and designed for NZ conditions

A family business, X Span is proudly 100% New Zealand-owned and operated, launched in 2014 by owner and managing director Anthony Farrelly, following his long involvement in the steel building industry and a desire to “bring something better” to the New Zealand market. Six years on and the business continues to innovate and strive to be a market leader.

“Our X Span farm sheds are ideal if you’re a dairy, livestock, or agricultural farmer wanting a large, strong steel shed for your farming needs,” says Anthony.

“Clients can choose from a range of styles including open bay utility sheds, calf rearing sheds, hay barns, grain storage sheds, and packing sheds.

“And we also cater to those in the market for a large shed to house specialist farming equipment or even a cow house.”

X Span’s recent advances in engineering for cold rolled steel, C-section portal frames have allowed the business to go big in its designs, with building spans of 25 meters plus, up to nine meters in height at the knee, lengths in excess of 100 meters and varying bay sizes with individual bay sizes up to eight meters in width.

As a proudly Kiwi-owned company itself,
X Span uses only the most trusted New Zealand-based suppliers such as Metalcraft, Windsor Doors, and APL.

“These are long-established partnerships that allow us to bring you the best product at the best price without sacrificing quality or workmanship.

“When it comes to engineering and design, we’re at the top of our game,” says Anthony.

“X Span sheds offer the best in engineering design and strength, incorporating our very own (and New Zealand’s first and only BRANZ tested and appraised) K5S steel portal bracket system.

“With our K5S brackets, not only are we providing stronger buildings to the New Zealand market but this system also allows the design of bigger buildings without the need for obstructive knee or apex braces.”

Also unique to X Span is its own state of the art online software system, Shed Creator, which offers vast design options and creative engineering flexibility. This software allows the customer the ability to easily design and download a detailed quote for their dream shed or other building type.

“Even better, it’s available online to use in your own time and in the comforts of your own space. How great is that!”

Ensuring all facets of the shed market are met, if it’s simply a kitset shed that you’re after, X Span has the ability to supply anywhere in New Zealand, delivered to your door.

Alternatively, if you’re based in Northland, Waikato, Canterbury, or Central Otago one of the experienced X Span agents can provide a construction quote for a full turn-key service.

Recent X Span projects include a 15 x 21-metre warehouse for a potato farmer in Methven, a 12 x 24-metre packing shed for a cherry orchardist in Cromwell, a 27 x 100-metre feed pad cover (cow house) for a dairy farmer in the Waikato, a 12 x 32-metre storage shed for a honey business in Kaipara, and a 20 x 40-metre workshop in Northland.
