If you’re looking for a heavy-duty tractor mulcher that can handle large orchard prunings, right up to 500mm-diameter trees, then FAE will have a machine to suit these needs.
FAE Group is a world-renowned manufacturer headquartered in the town of Fondo in northern Italy, and for the past 34 years has dedicated itself to the research and development of its extensive tractor mulcher range, producing market-leading shredding technology.
FAE mulchers are available for tractors ranging from 50hp–500hp, so there’s a suitable model available for fruit producers right up to land clearing contractors who want to clear large areas in the shortest possible time.
“During its 30-plus years, FAE has been at the forefront of developing new ideas, particularly with its teeth design and many other unique features,” says Ray Copland from Active VMA, national distributor of FAE in New Zealand.

FAE is renowned worldwide for its innovation in shredding technology and constant research and development to discover more advanced ways of making sure farmers and contractors get the full potential out of their FAE mulchers.
FAE launched a fixed tooth mulcher called the Patrazio in 2020. This is aimed at horticultural growers (with tractors ranging from 50hp–100hp) and is available in working widths of 1.5m–2m. This model also has FAE Bite Limiter rotor technology fitted as standard, which helps feed material into the rotor and prevents the rotor from stalling.
Both the BL Mini Blades and optional C Mini Tungsten carbide tooth (the latter being more suited for really stony conditions) deliver a superior finish of mulched material. Another key feature of the Patrazio is its low-mounted central gearbox, ideal for orchard tractors with a low-mounted PTO drive. This results in the drive shaft running parallel, greatly reducing stress on the drive line and making the machine ideal for the demands of New Zealand conditions.
“We are starting to see more of a shift towards fixed tooth mulchers, with customers telling us that the overall running costs have dramatically reduced, compared to running standard flails,” says Ray.
“Feedback also shares that the horsepower requirement needed is lower, resulting in less fuel consumption per hour. This is great feedback given some people’s perception of fixed tooth is that they are more expensive to run, which clearly is not the case. Plus, the end result gives a finer mulch, making them an ideal machine for clearing large blocks of scrub and also for land that has been recently deforested.”
FAE also produces a range of forestry tillers ranging from 1.5m–2.5m working width, with a working depth of 300mm–500mm, depending on the model and HP requirement. The machines are ideal for mulching stumps and totally removing them, as they are fitted with gear transmission that gives a low-speed/high-torque effect. Also available from FAE is a range of stone crushers and multitask machines along with a full range of excavator and skid steer mulchers.
