Built in Japan, the four-stroke Trojan is well suited to New Zealand’s terrain, having had a number of special features added, making it one of the big sellers among farmers in New Zealand.
The Trojan comes in a standard electric blue colour and is fairly light and easy to manoeuvre at 120kg (dry weight). Seat height is one of the lowest around at 810mm, there is a 12V electric system, and a large battery powered headlight (60/55w), which is well protected by a mounted metal frame. A spring loaded carrying clamp is located on front carrier designed for small items such as wet weather gear or lunch.
The Trojan boasts a 199cc 4-stroke, 1-cylinder, air-cooled engine with a 13-litre capacity fuel tank, which has very good fuel economy. Added to this, the 5-speed constant mesh transmission is easy to operate with plenty of power.
This bike was also fitted with dual side stands, making it easier to park on rough terrain and conditions, well suited to the farming environment.
Our test bike was provided by New Plymouth Motorcycle Centre, which has a strong customer base from the Taranaki Farming region. Staff member Dean Sanderson says the bike’s popularity is due to it’s very simple yet practical design, making it easy for a variety of people to use.
"Even when people come in to trade in an older model of the Suzuki Trojan they are usually trading it in for a newer model of the same thing because they are so happy with it. It is a relatively inexpensive bike to service and we find even the older second hand models are really popular because of their reliability."
Currently retailing at $5995 (incl GST) the Suzuki Trojan DR200SE is definitely worth a look.
