Mahindra’s 9500 ROPS tractor is built with rugged simplicity and is a very economical alternative to other tractors.

Under the bonnet, the 9500 hundred features a simple yet reliable four cylinder, 3.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine which is rated at 92hp. The fuel tank capacity sits at a reasonable 72-litres.

Matched up to the engine is a 12-speed synchromesh transmission that gives the operator four gears in each of the three ranges and a shuttle on the left of the steering column gives the operator the same 12 gears in reverse although it does require the clutch to change directions.

The single speed PTO only provides the standard 540 rpm output and is mechanically engaged with a single lever. The three point linkage once again uses hefty fixed ball end arms and provides an adequate 2.5-tonne lift capacity.

Two mechanically controlled hydraulic remote valves come as standard and the hydraulic output from the pump tops out at 41 litres/min. Part of the package is a factory built front-end loader for the tractor, which impressively also includes self levelling, a euro hitch and hydraulic third service as standard.

The flat operator’s platform makes for easy access and the raised position of the seat offers clear commanding views. The controls all use mechanical linkages so there is very little chance that anything can go wrong, the simplistic layout and nature of the controls also means virtually anyone can jump on this tractor and drive it.

The verdict

If you’re after a simple, no nonsense tractor minus the many features and creature comforts tractor operators of today have come to expect, then the Mahindra 9500 may be just what you’re after. Whilst it won’t suit everyone it does offer virtually unrivalled value for money for a 92hp tractor with loader, sporting a price tag of $54,999 + GST. Price alone will have many interested.
