Tractor manufacturers positive about 2017 as year-on-year sales of tractors in New Zealand remain steady
The total number of tractor sales in New Zealand has remained steady over the years, demonstrating continuing confidence within the primary sector, NZ Tractor and Machinery Association’s vice president, Roger Nehoff, says.
In the four months of 2017, the number of sales was 803 compared to the 796 sold in the same period in 2016, Roger added.
The figures compiled by TAMA shows the increase in the horticulture and viticulture industries in Northland, Hawke’s Bay, and Marlborough.
In Marlborough, the sales increased nearly 120%, while Hawke’s Bay saw a 50% growth. Regions such as Otago and Central North Island—traditional dairy, sheep, and beef regions—have also reflected the growth in sales. Sales in Taranaki almost doubled compared with the same period last year. However, there was a decline in sales seen in the Bay of Plenty and Auckland.
“In spite of the adverse weather events, the growth in horticulture and viticulture looks set to continue, especially with the current kiwifruit boom, expansion of apple production and continuing growth in the New Zealand wine industry,” Roger says.
