“It was a bit slow for the first few months,” says company director Glen Malcolm. “We’ve been known as the used hay mower parts people for quite a few years now, and it’s taken us the last 12 or so months to build up a good range of used round baler stock.”

Taits Rural now stock parts for most brands of round baler, with balers arriving in for dismantling most weeks.

“Being based in Southland has been an advantage for our company, as we’re in the heart of one of the largest pastoral regions in New Zealand.

“But in saying that, we buy damaged hay mowers and round balers from all over the country and ship the parts New Zealand wide and beyond.”

The Taits Rural comprehensive website allows clients to look up parts online – not only baler parts but also rake and mower parts.

“However due to the nature of the business, we never have all our parts listed there as our stock is constantly updating and changing, so we still encourage people to call us directly if the part they are looking for isn’t listed.”

Taits Rural was formed in 2018 on Taits Rd in Ashburton, by father and son team Glen and Bruno Malcolm. With a lifelong passion for machinery and farming, the business has grown from Bruno dismantling old hay mowers after school in the back shed, to a nationally known brand used by farmers, contractors, dealers, rural service mechanics and contractors all over the country.

Brands stocked are extensive and include Claas, Fella, John Deere, Krone, Kuhn, Pottinger, Vicon and Ziegler.
