Among the ag machinery, new vehicles, and technology and innovation releases from all corners of the globe, nestled the equally serious business of BBQ — at least for competitive BBQ chef Ken Van Mackelbergh and Kiwi-owned business The Kiwi Outdoor.

While the rich aroma of smoky meat drew in the crowds across all four days of New Zealand Agricultural Fieldays®, for The Kiwi Outdoor and Ken, it was another opportunity to spend time doing what they genuinely love — cooking BBQ and showcasing the ability and versatility of The Kiwi Outdoor range, from the tiny Nugget (the smallest oven in the range) to the entertainer’s dream, the Original Large. And then, of course, there was the non-stop array of succulent BBQ recipes, with Ken firmly at the helm.

Ken is a long-time BBQ guru and with his coal mates, Jamie and Nick, is set to showcase his and the oven’s talents later this year at the prestigious The American Royal World Series of Barbecue in Kansas. He’s a keen operator of The Kiwi Outdoor Oven when it comes to working on his newest and most prized BBQ concoctions.

The Kiwi Outdoor Oven was officially launched in 2013, although, back then, the ovens were initially promoted by a wood-fired pizza caravan set up in Pauanui beach. Word of mouth quickly spread about the delicious wood-fired taste, and when Brendan and Naomi Arnet purchased the business in 2018, they were firmly dedicated to the next stage of its journey — becoming the best Kiwi outdoor oven/fire on the market.

Known as the entertainer’s dream, the ovens are capable of cooking banquets for large groups or allowing the user to enjoy the tranquil pace of slow cooking, thanks to the oven’s conductive heating and insulation. They then provide the best of both worlds as an incredibly hot outdoor fire.
