Top Tractor Shoot Out 2017 Results

Top Tractor Shoot Out 2017 saw an impressive lineup and the Farm Trader judges had a tough time choosing a winner

With such an impressive lineup of CVT transmission tractors in our Top Tractor Shoot Out competition, choosing a winner was never going to be easy.

With each tractor boasting its own strengths, it is hard to compare and judge such a variety of different spec’d machines. Ranging in horsepower from 160hp to 350hp and in price from $185,624 to $320,000, our scoring criteria seemed the fairest and most transparent way to find what we consider to be the best value CVT tractor on the market.

So without further ado, the supreme winner is the Case IH Puma 240 CVT, by the narrowest of margins ahead of the John Deere 6175R and the New Holland T7.225.

All four judges agreed on what a tough task it was to choose a winner, as each entrant excelled in some respect above the rest.

However when we took into account the overall score on everything from performance, specifications, hydraulics, transmission, operator environment, user friendliness and our independent dyno, and factored in the price. This gave our rankings for the final placings.

It is important to note that those at the tail end of the field weren’t necessarily lesser performing or inferior, but when scores were tallied up and divided by the price, this impacted the placings significantly.

While our Farm Trader Gold award went to the Case IH Puma 240 CVT as best value for money tractor, you can use our score sheet to work out which of the eight tractors works best for your specific needs.
